What is Argan Oil?

Posted February 21st, 2010 by Emily

Since I finished the rally last year, I’ve been a bit obsessed with Argan Oil and the interesting story surrounding this native Moroccan product. If you’ve followed our blogs I wrote about our experience with the tree climbing goats — that we didn’t believe it until we saw it with our own eyes. And there they were, trees full of black and white goats eating the nut of the Argan tree.

The Argan Tree is native only to the southwest region of Morocco and the nut is incredibly high in Vitamin E and antioxidants. It is known for it’s beauty and cooking properties and the rally girls can’t wait to visit the cooperatives that sell the oil in Essaouira’s medina. I did my fair share of research once I returned home and found fascinating information about the women’s cooperatives, the challenges that face the crop and the women. In Morocco, King Mohammed VI has made significant strides for the women of the country, and in the case of Argan Oil, women’s cooperatives produce, sell and profit from this magical oil. I stumbled upon Argan Oils which is a primary supplier in the US and thankfully we have entered a great partnership as they felt the alliance and shared passion for the product, co-ops, mission and the simple love of the Moroccan country and culture.

I hope you will take a moment to click through ArganOils.com, read more about the product and background and consider purchasing the product. Not only is it an incredible beauty oil (the not-so-secret beauty secret of the Moroccan women), it helps a great cause – the entrepreneurial women of this great country and the chance they have been given to chase their dreams.
